Vat dyes are dyes that are reduced under alkaline conditions to color the fibers, and then oxidized to restore the original insoluble dyes on the fibers for dyeing cellulose fibers.


The insoluble vat dyes are made into sodium sulfate salts and become soluble vat dyes, mainly used for cotton printing.
